Justice

citizens with civic duty will divide
attorneys seek power to wedge
the mind of the populace must vote
selections absolute though their positions vague
you seek justice for the victim
tempered by compassion for the accused in court

municipal, state, and federal court
seek to weigh opinions which divide
the truth so often falls victim
defensive doubt drives the wedge
of what if and maybe so truth is vague
splitting the jury's vote

conviction established by unanimous vote
accomplishing the mission of the court
to fix and focus the vague
so no doubt remains in the divide
pledge to duty for truth's wedge
protects both suspect and victim

If the logic is faulty who is the victim?
What meaning can be in the vote?
when evidence won't wedge
minds won't budge in conservative court
where emotions divide
the results are vague

frustration grows from the vague
no action for families of the victim
their anger will grow and divide
when hopes fail on one vote
to summarize the conclusion of the court
blocked out with a single mind wedge

no name is attached to the wedge
power is found in the vague
process of jury deliberation in court
so no single victim
can expect the winning vote
when an individual can divide

all wield a wedge drawing the victim
mind pictures so vague lead to false vote
justice in court defines the divide
